Justice & Peace

The role of the Justice & Peace is to work for justice, peace and care for creation by prayer and action, guided by the Scriptures and Catholic Social Teaching. This includes identification and raising awareness of injustice and its root causes. “Justice and Peace” activities are undertaken in the parish with a very specific focus, e.g. on the third world, on peace issues, on the environment, and so on.

Pope Francis writes:

“An authentic faith – which is never comfortable or completely personal – always involves a deep desire to change the world, to transmit values, to leave this earth somehow better that we found it. We love this magnificent planet on which God has put us, and we love the human family which dwells here, with all its tragedies and struggles, its hopes and aspirations, its strengths and weaknesses. The earth is our common home and all of us are brothers and sisters” (The Joy of the Gospel,§183)

“Spiritual conversion, the intensity of the love of God and neighbour, zeal for justice and peace, the Gospel meaning of the poor and of poverty, are required of everyone” (The Joy of the Gospel, §201)

Our Parish Justice & Peace group hold many important events and actions:

Fair trade, which is about better prices, decent working conditions and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers. It’s about supporting the development of thriving farming and worker communities that have more control over their futures and protecting the environment in which they live and work.

We will also have our annual signing of Christmas cards for Prisoners of Conscience in the Church hall.
